Jackson Hogg is delighted to be representing a leading engineering services organisation who deliver engineering products for the energy, materials and heavy engineering industries. They are looking for a Project Engineer to join their team due to high demand.
The Project Manager oversees the full project lifecycle and is responsible for delivering the scope (in line with the client contract) as per the agreed budget and schedule, whilst ensuring the target margin is realised. They are a key figure within the business; driving progress across a number of different departments to ensure our projects are executed in line with our company policies, processes and objectives.
The Project Manager monitors progress, leads project reviews, drives completion, and summarizes project status into internal and external project reports. They are also the main point of contact for the client.

Key Responsibilities of a Project Manager
- Provide input and support into project proposals during the bid and pre-contract stage.
- Review all project and contractual documents on assignment of contract to ensure all project and contractual requirements are understood and documented.
- Develop a Project Execution Plan to reflect the companies project management procedure and in line with client requirements.
- Identify criteria for completion of contract and develop actionable plan for closing out contract.
- Develop and maintain project cost tracking, assign budgets for all elements of works, and approve project spend. Escalate overspends prior to commitment as required.
- Develop and maintain project programme, both internal and external, monitoring progress and identifying impact or opportunities against progress.
- Develop and monitor a project cashflow projection throughout the life of the project. Identify any negative cashflow or areas of risk and report to the business.
- Develop and lead internal and external project kick-off meetings, and ongoing Project progress meetings as required by client and project status.
- Coordinate all project work activities and actions to achieve project schedule. Driving and expediting engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Develop internal project summary reports and communicate project progress to the business monthly, or as required.
- Complete external project progress reports, and programme updates as required by contract or client.
- Attend client meetings, either virtually or on site as required by contract or client and provide project progress and status updates.
- Review and approve invoices for purchased, manufactured, subcontract or other items prior to payment of invoices.
- Identify, log, and manage Risks and Opportunities throughout the life of the project.
- Identify all changes to contract scope, raise Early Warning Notices (EWN), develop variations or compensation events (CE), in line with contract requirements timeframes and procedures.
- Log and respond to all client queries and actions in a timely manner.
- Log and manage quality throughout the project including any non-conformances, or quality issues identified.
- Formal closure of each project including final cost & margin position, time reporting, commercial and contractual issues, ensuring any lessons learned are fully investigated and documented and briefed to the business.
Key responsibilities of a Project Manager
- HND/Degree qualified in a technical or engineering discipline
- Formal Project Management qualification (PMI, APM or equiv)
- An experienced Project Manager (at least 2 years), including projects within a construction environment.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering projects under both standard and non-standard contract terms.
- Project Controls experience, including planning, monitoring and reviewing of both schedules and cost.
- Understand engineering drawings and specifications
- Confident decision maker and able to work well under pressure at high velocity
- Able to motivate and encourage others
- Able to resolve conflicts
- An ability to solve problems and work with velocity
- Possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Be able to co-ordinate work carried out by different people / departments and organisations
- Strong computer skills including experience of MS Project/P6 and cost control software
- Able to travel in the UK and overseas as required (expectation of intermittent travel)
