Group Metrology Engineer
Preferred Location: Blackburn (Lancashire) | Derby Considered | Hybrid Working with UK & International Travel
A leading manufacturing group is seeking an experienced Group Metrology Engineer to lead the development and implementation of a standardised metrology strategy across multiple sites.
The successful candidate will initially review the Group's current measurement processes, with a particular focus on CMM activities, where opportunities exist to reduce over-processing through optimisation of programme content and measurement frequency. From this assessment, you will develop and deploy a Group-wide strategy that improves efficiency, consistency, capability and utilisation of metrology resources.

HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).

From this assessment, you will develop and deploy a Group-wide strategy that improves efficiency, consistency, capability and utilisation of metrology resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing CMM programmes, measurement frequencies and inspection methodologies across the Group.
- Identify opportunities to improve programming efficiency, reduce over-processing and increase throughput.
- Develop a standardised Group metrology and CMM strategy.
- Drive software standardisation, training programmes and best-practice sharing across sites.
- Assess current CMM equipment capability, utilisation and future investment requirements.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CMM assets and metrology manpower.
- Provide technical leadership for metrology activities, supporting Quality, Manufacturing and Operations teams.
About You
- Proven experience in aerospace, precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Expert user of PC-DMIS, with strong CMM programming experience.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, metrology principles and inspection planning.
- Experience driving process improvement and standardisation across manufacturing operations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
